The Diverse Elders Coalition is deeply troubled by widespread media reports that the Trump Administration is banning words like “diversity” and “transgender” and “vulnerable,” among other important words that describe interventions, from the federal budget and ordering federal agencies not to use such words in budget documents. As the name of our Coalition manifests, we believe that respect and support for diversity among our elders is fundamental to a decent society. This is critically important because diverse elders are highly vulnerable as they age, a point that has been consistently recognized by the federal government, including through the Older Americans Act. And our Coalition expressly includes transgender elders because they are part of the rich diversity of our nation’s elders and are highly vulnerable as they age.

A ban on these and other words from the federal government is misguided, dangerous and an affront to everything this country stands for. The Diverse Elders Coalition will continue to proudly use these “banned words” and calls on the Trump Administration to reverse this dangerous and destructive budget directive immediately.

Diverse Elders Coalition (DEC, por sus siglas en inglés) expresa su más profunda preocupación ante las informaciones difundidas por distintos medios de comunicación, según los cuales, el presidente Donald Trump ordenó a las agencias federales prohíbir el uso de terminos como: “diversidad,” “Tránsgenero,” y “vulnerable” en el presupuesto nacional.

Tal y como lo manifiesta cada una de nuestras organizaciones, DEC considera que el respeto y el apoyo a la diversidad entre nuestros adultos mayores, es fundamental dentro de una sociedad decente. Esto es de suma importancia porque nuestra comunidad adulto mayor se hace más vulnerable a medida que pasa el tiempo, una característica que incluso es reconocida y se incluye en the Older American Act.

Nuestra coalición cree y apuesta firmemente en la inclusión, específicamente la de nuestros adultos mayores tránsgeneros en Estados Unidos, porque representan una fuente rica de diversidad.

Prohíbir el uso de estos términos por parte del gobierno federal, es incorrecto y muy peligroso. Es una ofensa para lo que representa y crée este país, y cada uno de sus ciudadanos.

Diverse Elders Coalition con total orgullo, continuará haciendo uso de estos “términos prohíbidos,” al tiempo que hace un llamado al gobierno del presidente Donald Trump a revocar de inmediato esta medida peligrosa y destructiva.

연방정부가 이런 단어들을 사용금지하는 것은 위험하고 잘못된 것이며        이 나라가 주창하는 모든 가치에 대한 모독입니다.  The Diverse Elders Coalition 은 이러한  “금지된 단어들” 을 자랑스럽게 계속 사용해 나갈 것이며 트럼프 행정부가 이런 위험하고 파괴적인 예산지침을 즉시 철회할 것을 요구합니다.
