Let’s Talk Aging, Caregiving and Cultural Competence at This Year’s Aging in America Conference
By: Jenna McDavid

It’s April, which means that the American Society on Aging’s 2019 Aging in America Conference (AiA19) is right around the corner! The Diverse Elders Coalition and our five member organizations will be on the ground in New Orleans from April 15th through the 18th, talking about issues of aging, caregiving, and cultural competence in our communities. Will we see you there?

For conference attendees, you can find a full list of the panels, workshops, film screenings, and events that the Diverse Elders Coalition and its members will be a part of at AiA19 by clicking on the image above, or visiting http://bit.ly/DECASA2019. You can print and bring this flyer with you to the conference to always know where to find us! Our team will be speaking on a variety of issues, including developing multigenerational programming, the impact that technology can have on long-term care, tools to better address elder abuse in diverse communities, and so much more. As always, the Aging in America Conference is a key opportunity for the DEC to connect with thousands of aging professionals who are serving communities of color, American Indian and Alaska Native communities, and LGBT communities, and we look forward to sharing our experiences with attendees!

We are especially excited about our caregiving panel discussion, which features all five CEOs and Executive Directors of the Diverse Elders Coalition, including:

Our leadership team will discuss the unique caregiving needs of each of the constituencies we serve and why we’ve chosen to engage in a national caregiving initiative. I will be moderating the panel discussion, and in addition to introducing the exciting caregiving research and programming we’re developing with The John A. Hartford Foundation, I also get to ask each of our panelists questions about the work they’re doing, the political climate around caregiving, and the challenges our communities face when thinking about care for older adults. We hope you’ll take time out of your busy conference schedule to join us at 3:30pm CDT in Celestin C (Level 3) for this important discussion!

And if you won’t be attending the conference in person, stay tuned to the Diverse Elders Coalition’s Twitter account at twitter.com/diverseelders and the hashtag #AiA19. We’ll have robust coverage of our conference sessions and other related events and activities throughout the week of the conference. To everyone joining us in New Orleans, travel safe, and looking forward to seeing you soon!
