YOUR Story

YOUR Story

Stories change minds. One of the most effective ways to educate the public and build momentum for diverse older adults is to describe our lives and the elements that shaped them. Stories tell leaders about our struggles and triumphs in ways that facts and numbers cannot do alone. And your story can be the story that leads to change.

Aging impacts us all—whether you are an older adult relying on a modest monthly Social Security check, an adult child who is caring for an aging parent or a grandparent raising grandchildren. Therefore, we encourage story submissions from older adults, their loved ones, advocates and other community members that illustrate the struggles and triumphs of aging as people of color or LGBT people.

We are looking for stories that are personal, emotional and show the strength of our community despite great adversity. Perhaps, you have a story about why Social Security is important to your economic security?  Or a story about living with HIV/AIDS? Whatever your experience may be, let us know your aging story, today. Tell Your Story using the form below.

HOW THE DIVERSE ELDERS COALITION RELIES ON STORIES

We share stories with the public to raise awareness on the issues that affect diverse elders. We do this by sharing them with journalists, describing them to leaders in the policy field, by highlighting them on our blog and social media, and more.

“YOUR STORY CAN BE THE STORY THAT LEADS TO CHANGE”

Your stories also allow us to show policy makers the faces behind their proposed policies and programs. With your stories, we are able to advocate for the needs of diverse elders more effectively.
